@reiffknives9284
Our story begins in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia. Our roots run deep there. Our Grandmother was a native West Virginian and our grandfather was an avid sportsman from just over the mountains in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In the early 80's our grandparents bought a piece of land from our great uncle's homestead and built a small cabin. It was there, in the backcountry of West Virginia, twenty minutes off any paved road and hours from the crime and madness of the cities that my siblings and I fell in love with the outdoors.
That little cabin is where we learned to shoot, hunt, fish, process game, ride four-wheelers and respect the land. Growing up, we spent our holidays and summer vacations there. Thanksgivings were always particularly memorable. It was deer hunting season and everyone hunted... a lot. There was always plenty to eat, and although we must have had turkey some years, none of us can remember it. What we do remember are chicken fried venison steaks, potatoes and onions fried in a skillet and canned wild ramps from the cellar. The venison and ramps were harvested from the pristine mountain slopes surrounding the property. The potatoes and onions came from the homestead gardens where we would hunt for bugs while our great aunt and uncle tended the crops. Everything came from the land.
One of our fondest childhood memories is sitting around the family table, prepping the day's harvest and preparing it for the freezers. In the summer, we'd spend our days exploring, hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers, building forts, building fires and swimming in the cool mountain streams. It was an incredible way to grow up.
What does any of this have to do with knives? Well, even as young children we were taught to use and respect knives. We'd help dress and butcher game, build forts, build fires, whittle wood and do just about any other job you can imagine that required a sharp edge. Knives are part of our family's heritage and are one of humankind's oldest, most essential tools. Most people on earth, American or otherwise, use knives on a daily basis. They are integral to our survival as a species, whether in the wild, the warehouse, the kitchen or on the battlefield. They also happen to be one of the most beautiful tools you can own. Maybe we are biased, but we know a lot of folks who would agree.
So why knives? Well, as passionate outdoorsmen, regular knife users and obsessive knife collectors, we look around the knife industry and get frustrated. We're frustrated, because like so many other industries in America, we see an overabundance of compromise. We see quality compromises in the craftsmanship and materials being used to make knives. We see iconic American brands forsaking their country and outsourcing to save a dollar. We see cheap, low quality, poorly designed knives being mass-produced overseas by American companies in a time when good, hard-working, highly skilled people in our own country are desperate and out of work.
We see all of these things and we know we can do better. So, Instead of whining about it, we've decided to forsake the status quo, roll up our sleeves and get to work. Reiff Knives is the result.
Reiff Knives is a family owned and operated, American knife and tool company started by two brothers, Stu and Ben Shank. We're sourcing the best materials from American suppliers and making our products in American factories. We know we have a responsibility to the people who work with us and to the people who buy our tools. We don't make compromises to bolster the bottom line and we don't lie or spin to make garbage sound great. We build the best, heirloom quality knives and we charge a fair price for tools that are guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Thank you for checking out our website. We hope you like what you see. If you buy something and you love it, please let us know. If you buy something and you hate it, please let us know. Can you get it to shave? I want a cheap practice knife and my goal is to make knives able to shave

    • @WardogOutdoors
      @WardogOutdoors 13 днів тому

      I can get knives sharp enough to shave for sure. Fully creating a burr along one side, then rotate the knife around and do the same thing. Remove the burr on a leather belt or leather strop. The key is fully apexing. Grinding to all new steel. Any shine on the apex needs removed. Its old rolled edge. Many time a knife may look sharp but under a microscope you can see whats really going on. It can take quite a bit of time to apex a knife. The cheaper steels wont take an edge as well and can dull quickly. Good luck to you.

      Your welcome Spyderco makes some mule team knives that are very sharp. You can pick up the blades for a reasonable price with quality steel. One has spy27 steel and is around 60 bucks or so if I remember right. You would have to make the handle and sheath or they offer the handle scales and sheath for about another hundred bucks. These knives offer a flat grind that will get extremely sharp and a good quality steel.

Naniwa Choseras are nice but need lapped often to keep them from dishing as they are softer then diamond or cbn. I’m an old wood worker retired many years. I’ve used my Tormek grinder for decades and have found no flaws with it. One needs patience though but these wheels last a lifetime. Expensive yes and wheel replacement can be expensive too. There are now knockoffs of this design for less cost that could work as well I suppose. Bottom line, water sharpening is my pick.

    Hey everybody I was the winner of the giveaway and I got the Architect 3.5 in the mail yesterday and it is an AWESOME little bushcraft knife!!! The little notch in the spine throws some nice sparks off the Ferro rod!!! The leather sheath is a very stout and is very well made. The ergos of the handle are sweet!!!! This is my first Architect knife, for the past few months I’ve been really wanting one and now I own one and I am super stoked!!!! I’m definitely going to be saving up some money to get the AK 6.5 and possibly making a piggy setup to carry the 3.5 over the 6.5. The 6.5 is now my grail knife after holding the 3.5. Thank you WARDOG OUTDOORS for doing the review and the giveaway!!! And a special shoutout to Ethan and Architect Knives!!!!!!! Before I even saw this video I was following Architect knives on INSTAGRAM and Facebook because of all of the positive feedback on UA-cam and other social media.seriously checkout the Knife Connection or Architect Knives website and do a mock run through on the knife builders there are so many combinations between the the steel,handles,sheaths and attachments. From 1095,CPM3V,s35vn and even Magnacut. And canvas mixers and G10 scales with crapload of color schemes and patterns. Again thank WARDOG and Ethan at Architect knives!!!!!!!

    • @WardogOutdoors
      @WardogOutdoors Місяць тому

      I love both the Architect Knives and the Reiff Knives. They are very much alike in blade shape. Architect, you get to build the knife with many different steels choices the way you like. Also many different handle scale choices and you get the option to get a ferro rod with a matching handle that matches the knife scales. Reiff offers CPM3V and Magnacut which are both premium knife steels. Seems the leather sheaths may be built by the same maker as I seen a logo on the back of the sheath that was the same. The Kydex sheath on the Reiff Knives has a swivel so it moves similar to a Dangler if you need to rotate it while setting. The Architect kydex has many options to mount it. These 2 brands are my favorite of these style of knives and you will be happy with either brand. They are both top of the line, quality USA made knives made by amazing companies with very comfortable handles.

      The TOOR KNIVES MULLET is one of the best looking knives in my opinion. It is also extremely heavy duty and very thick. One of my favorites for sure.
